Dear friends

We live in challenging times of continuing uncertainty.

The EAPCCT has been keeping a close eye on the prevalence of Covid-19 in Europe and worldwide to assess the viability of our proposed congress in Palma de Mallorca.  We scrutinised international travel embargoes, quarantine rules and, most importantly, the pressures on the health service providers of all countries in which you all play such pivotal roles. We have drawn on the wise counsel of Grupo Pacifico and the experiences of our sister organisations.

At a virtual meeting on Tuesday 15th September the board reviewed our options. With upturns in infection rates in many countries there was reluctant but unanimous agreement that hosting a physical meeting was imprudent and we would better devote our energy and resources to providing a well-executed virtual meeting with the opportunities that could bring. So that is our plan.

We have created an FAQ page on this site which will hopefully address your concerns and questions. It will be updated regularly. However, please also keep an eye out for communications from the General Secretary, our newsletters and Twitter feed.

The congress abstract tool closed on the 11th November 2020. The programme is now under development.
The virtual congress will be on 25th - 28th May 2021.

The pre-congress is on 25th May, and the theme is: Fundamental and applied studies in poisoning – an overview of their role for the clinical toxicologist.

The themes for the main congress, 26th - 28th May are:

  • Coronavirus-19 and toxicology
  • Alcohol as a co-ingestant
  • Investigation and management of caustic ingestions
  • Toxicology 2.0: new tools for data collection, surveillance and education in poisoning
  • Drug Formulation and its importance in the poisoned patient
These are testing times and we ask for your patience and understanding – indeed, for a continuation of the ‘Unity in our Community’ which has been so characteristic of our clinical toxicology family during this extraordinary time.

For those keen on visiting Palma de Mallorca, we now intend to hold our congress there in 2023, following Tallinn in 2022; both are amazing destinations we must visit!

Stay healthy and let us hope for the best. ‘See’ you at EAPCCT 2021!
